چکیده انگلیسی

The purpose of this paper is to examine the costs and benefits of market stabilisation schemes when the behaviour of speculators and other agents depends on forward looking (rational) expectations about future states of the market. for example in the EMS currency stabilisation scheme, or price support schemes for stabilising agricultural incomes. In practice these quantities have been estimated from observations of market responses made before the proposed stabilisation scheme was in place (see, e.g., UNCTAD (1977)).
